Fencing is an active contact sport. It is fun, skilful and a way to get fit. It is also an  excellent way to relieve tensions and get rid of aggressions in a safety controlled environment, it is not a dangerous sport. In short, it is a fantastic social activity and way to get improve your fitness. It is a sport that can be done by both young (7 years and older) and old (as old as you feel) , male and female.
It is not expensive to try, most clubs provide starter kit that can be borrowed to get a taste for fencing and also provide coaching for a very  reasonable session cost.
